Displaced by war in the 1970s, Maria Ousseimi’s exposure to different cultures and places throughout her life has endowed her with a masterful touch when it comes to editing together multiple (sometimes disparate) layers to build a new narrative. Whether under the guise of interior designer, documentary filmmaker or writer, the result is always – as the photographer found Ousseimi as a sitter – intriguing.
